Meet the group

Hello everyone,

We are a group of three individuals that are currently enrolled as 2nd year graduate students in a Master's of Social Work program. We are in the beginning stages of group work that is placing an emphasis in creating awareness of the resources available to substance users as well as focusing on educating the public of the many dynamics of substance use.

Our group is comprised of the following individuals:

Mylinda. She is placed at the  Southwest Behavioral Health Center with the Adult Substance Abuse Program for her practicum.  She has experience working with at-risk youth and works part-time at the Washington County Youth Crisis Center. 

Dave. He is currently interning at Abbey Road Counseling. They do individual counseling, but also teach Prime For Life which is a alcohol/drug education program, as well a IOP (intensive outpatient ) that is drug/alcohol related with an emphasis on 12 step. He is also able to teach tobacco and marijuana classes focused on giving people tools to help on journey of recovery.

Robert. He is currently working in the capacity of an intern at Purgatory Correctional facility. There is a large percentage of incarcerated individuals that have a history of substance use. His primary responsibilities at this time are working with those with mental illness as well as those that have a history substance use.

Each member of the group was present for the initial meeting and creation of this blog. Again as we are in the beginning stages of working together, we have discussed ideas and assignments for our project such as: gathering research on substance dependency (Mylinda), getting information from local law enforcement (Robert), getting permission from copyright holders to use documentaries (Dave), and etc.
